Municipal and Other Bonds    

MSRB

The site of the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board which regulates the activities of municipal securities broker/dealers. The site includes information on the Board and the Board's rules. Includes regulations on matters such as continuing disclosure and restrictions on broker/dealers activities as financial advisors.

The Bond Buyer

Website for prominent daily trade journal on municipal bonds.  Posts a few articles daily for the public with the majority of the site accessible only to paid subscribers.

Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association

Professional association for bond dealers (underwriters, broker-dealers, dealer banks). Its goals is to foster improvements in the legislative, regulatory, educational, and market practice arenas.  Website includes market briefs, articles on regulatory issues, information for investors and continuing disclosure cover sheets.

Investing in Bonds

Very basic information geared toward educating individual investors; however the website includes an excellent glossary of terms relating to municipal bonds and municipal bond trades (municipal bond ticker).

Federal Government   

Bureau of Labor Statistics

Site includes key economic indicators including CPI, PPI, Payroll and Employment.

Bureau of Census

All the census data you could want on a difficult to navigate site. 

Bureau of Economic Analysis

National as well as State and local statistics including GDP, GSP and personal income.

Bureau of Public Debt

Descriptions of various securities of the United States Treasury.  This site also includes forms and rate tables for State and Local Government Series, "The Monthly Statement of Public Debt", a list of outstanding US Treasury Notes and Bonds.

Economic Research - Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis

Data on-line includes last 13 months of CPI data, interest rate trend tables, PPI and more.

 Federal Reserve - Bank of New York

Offering a vast array of educational materials on various government securities, economic data, the economy and the Federal Reserve.

 Federal Reserve System - Board of Governors

Includes information regarding the Federal Reserve System's organization and responsibilities, economic research and data (with selected daily and historical interest rate quotes and information regarding ownership of securities including municipal bonds under the "flow of funds section"), the Community Reinvestment Act, Fedwire funds transfer and more.

Fedworld Information Network

The National Technical Information Service (NTIS) introduced Fed World in 1992 to provide a comprehensive central access point for locating and acquiring government information. From this site access government information, documents and files, search abstracts that describe information and products available from the Federal Government, learn and search the Davis-Bacon Act, and more.

Government Printing Office

The Government Printing Office web site offers government publications and a method of locating them with the demand & locator service. The text of documents including the Federal Register, Congressional Record, and Congressional Bills are available and can be searched.

Internal Revenue Service

Articles relating to the arbitrage regulations (general discussion of the rules and what is arbitrage, advance refunding, small issue exemption and more)... Also online are a series of articles of published in October 2002 as the Tax Exempt Bonds Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Technical Instruction Program for Fiscal Year 2003.  Also available is a publication summarizing the federal tax law rules that affect governmental bond issuance. National Clearinghouse for Educational Facilities

Created in 1997 by the U.S. Department of Education, the National Clearinghouse for Educational Facilities (NCEF) provides information on planning, designing, funding, building, improving, and maintaining schools and news pertaining to schools throughout the country.

Securities and Exchange Commission

In addition to establishing and enforcing laws and rules that govern the securities industry, the SEC oversees activities of market participants including underwriters (broker-dealers).  Web site includes regulations, litigation involving market participants and required corporate filings at Edgar. The SEC's site also includes a list of nationally Recognized Municipal Securities Information Repositories NRMSIRs) and information regarding secondary market disclosure.

Thomas Legislative Information/Library of Congress

Status and details of current federal legislation. Also provides searchable version of the Congressional Record, details of hot legislation and links to other legislative Web sites.

Government Finance Officer's Association

The Government Finance Officer's Association's ("GFOA") website catalogues relevant electronic mailing lists, newsgroups, requests for proposals, news, legislation and testimony to congressional committees.

GASB

Web site for the Governmental Accounting Standards Board, the organization responsible for establishing accounting and financial reporting standards for state and local governmental entities in the United States. Information is available relating to GASB, its activities and its pronouncements.  Also see FASB the Financial Accounting Standards Board with similar responsibilities in the private sector.

International City/County
Management Association

Rockefeller Institute of Government
